The Democratic challenger running for Town of Oyster Bay supervisor, John Mangelli, declared a victory with an advantage of less than 200 votes -- but incumbent John Venditto says the numbers are too close to call.

Oyster Bay is dominated by Republicans, and Democrats don't have a single seat on the town board, making the potential Mangelli victory a major upset.

Venditto will likely challenge the results as there are still absentee ballots to be counted, according to analysts.

Venditto was heavily expected to win by political analysts, but the town government has been under scrutiny in recent months following federal bribery charges against a Nassau County restaurateur.

News 12 has reported that federal prosecutors accused Harendra Singh, 56, of bribing a Town of Oyster Bay official between 2011 and 2013 to secure a pair of guaranteed loans totaling $20 million.
