Vandals put up hateful graffiti on Wheeler Road in Hauppauge Monday, according to police.
They say the vandals placed the symbols on power poles a few hundred feet from homes and businesses.
News 12 is choosing not to show images of much of the graffiti because of its offensive nature.
Julio Espinosa, who owns a home security business, says such occurrences are on the rise.
"A lot of families are scared," Espinosa says. "Especially in this area, like Bay Shore and Brentwood, which are majority of Hispanics."
Suffolk police did not immediately have information about the owner of the property or the vandalized poles.
