A candle may be responsible for a fire at an apartment building in Nassau County Tuesday evening.
The Long Beach Fire Department received the report around 7 p.m. for the blaze on W. Broadway in Long Beach.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a partially extinguished fire in a first-floor unit after the fire sprinkler system activated and contained the flames, fire officials say.
Crews worked to fully extinguish the remaining fire, checked for any extension and ventilated the affected apartment.
The fire was determined to be not suspicious and appears to have been sparked by an unattended candle, according to the fire department.
No injuries were reported.
All operations were under the command of Chief John Marino and Assistant Chiefs DiGiacomo and Ray.
