A new state standard took effect today allowing the ride-sharing companies Uber and Lyft to operate without facing penalties.
Taxi and limousine drivers are lobbying lawmakers to opt out.
They argue while they are subject to governmental screening, Uber and Lyft drivers only have to pass a background check completed by their company.
