Two high schools in the Bronx are being added to the state?s list of those needing improvement.

Jane Addams Vocational High School and the Bronx Leadership Academy of Legal Studies failed to meet the minimum state performance requirements under the No Child Left Behind Act last year. Education officials say Jane Addams high school failed due to low English composition Regents scores. Education officials say the Bronx Leadership Academy of Legal Studies failed for low graduation rates.

Once a school is added to the failing list, the schools must develop a two-year improvement plan. If a Bronx school fails several years in a row, it may be shutdown. So far, eight schools have been shutdown in the city. Education officials say parents have the right to transfer children out of a failing school.
