A possible tragedy was averted when a truck hit an overpass in Suffolk, causing it to tip over.
The tractor-trailer didn't have enough clearance for an overpass at Main Street and Senix Avenue in Center Moriches. The accident happened at around 10:15 p.m. Sunday.
The vehicle tipped over, causing the driver, a 50-year-old Hicksville man, to suffer minor injuries to his arm. A passenger, a 30-year-old Brentwood man, didn't appear to be injured, according to police.
The driver was issued a summons for failing to comply with a height restriction. A sign at the overpass indicates that the clearance is 11 feet 6 inches.
The MTA conducted a safety inspection of the overpass after the accident.
