Officials say an SUV went off the highway, crashed into a tree and burst into flames on the Long Island Expressway early this morning.

The incident happened near exit 55 on the eastbound side of the expressway just after 2 a.m.

News 12 Long Island has learned a truck driver saw the whole thing and quickly stopped to help.

The driver of the SUV, John Boisseuau, 37, of Sound Beach, was not seriously hurt and was treated in an ambulance.

Police say Boisseau was driving drunk.

The road has since reopened.
