Fleeing Floridians and Long Islanders scrambling to get home have been flying into Islip's MacArthur Airport Friday to escape Hurricane Irma's path. But other travelers were set on getting back to Florida before the storm.
Karen De'Angelis, of Yaphank, was happy to be home. De'Angelis was in Miami when everyone in the city was ordered out.
"It's frightening. It's really frightening," she said.
Others at MacArthur were trying to head south.
Kurt and Judy Lindeman were flying back to Florida to make sure their house, pets and elderly family members were safe. Joe Sande and his wife cut short their vacation with his brother, who lives in East Marion. They decided to travel to Georgia and ride out the storm with their children who live there instead of heading back to Lakeland, Florida.
