More than $20 million is going toward a City Council program for job training, and lawmakers say the double-digit unemployment rate in the Bronx makes the initiative particularly relevant in the borough.
Sorano's truck driving school is helping in the training and placement, and serves mainly people from the northern sections of the Bronx. But elected officials say thousands will benefit in many industries, in sites across the city.
?The uniqueness of this training is you're going to be trained and certified and guaranteed and placed on a job?what we're doing is using taxpayers? dollars to train people and make them become taxpayers,? said Bronx Councilman Larry Seabrook (D).
Qualifications for each type of job vary, as does the length of training.
