The Long Island Rail Road temporarily suspended service on the Long Beach branch between Valley Stream and Long Beach after a tractor-trailer blocked the tracks.
Officials say a tractor-trailer split at its center as it crossed tracks while heading westbound on Atlantic Avenue in East Rockaway. The roof of the vehicle partially peeled off due to the incident. Workers used extra caution in removing the vehicle from the tracks to prevent cargo from spilling out. A heavy loader pulled the tractor-trailer out of the way around 3:45 p.m.
The 3:23 p.m. train from Brooklyn to Long Beach was canceled, but service has since been restored. Officials expect 30 to 45-minute delays throughout the evening rush hour.
