Southampton and Suffolk County Hazmat teams responded to a mysterious odor at a BOCES school building in Westhampton Thursday.
According to Southampton Town Supervisor Patrick Heaney, people started noticing the odor as early as 11 a.m. Individuals were sent home from the building throughout the course of the day. However, Heaney says BOCES waited until around 3:30 p.m. to contact Southampton Town Public Safety.
Twelve more people were brought out of the building after Hazmat arrived, with at least one person overcome by the smell. There is no word yet on the cause of the odor.
