The Town of Smithtown renamed the Moriches Baseball Field in Saint James after Jim "Red" Dowling.
Dowling was the town's longtime Highway Superintendent and founded the Saint James Little League where he served as president for 18 years.
Before that, Dowling served in the Army Air Corps and survived after getting shot down in Germany where was taken as a prisoner.
"Red" died in May.
