The Town of Oyster Bay is once again inviting residents to honor their favorite service members through the 2026 Hometown Heroes Community Recognition Program. This beloved tradition celebrates local men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces with special tribute banners displayed in town parks. They must be a current or former resident of the Town of Oyster Bay.
Councilman Steve Labriola shared that the program is a heartfelt way to show appreciation, calling it “a lasting tribute to the courage and dedication” of local heroes.
Each banner features an honoree’s name, rank, photo, and service branch. Sponsorships are $75, covering production only, no profit is made from this program. After Veterans Day, banners are lovingly taken down before winter and returned to families as keepsakes.
Applications are open now through March 13, 2026. Supervisor Joseph Saladino said the program lets the community come together “to honor those who bravely and selflessly served our nation.”
