The Town of Huntington says highway crews are working around the clock to prepare local roads ahead of Sunday’s winter storm.
Officials report that crews are fully stocked and ready to respond, with more than 6,000 tons of salt currently on hand. Additional salt deliveries are expected to arrive throughout the day.
As soon as snow begins to fall, trucks will be dispatched to treat roadways, according to highway officials.
Huntington Highway Superintendent Andre Sorrentino said the town is prepared for the expected cold temperatures and snowy conditions.
“If people see that there is no salt on the road, usually there is. When it hits the snow, it’s clear. We’re going to be prepared because it’s going to be so cold, we have another batch salt in the back that’s made for 20 degrees and lower,” Sorrentino said.
Town officials are also urging residents to avoid parking on the street during the storm so plow crews can safely and efficiently clear neighborhood roads.
