A man was sentenced to six to 18 years behind bars for a fatal drunk driving incident in North Bellmore last October.
Daniel Bliss was just blocks from home, enjoying a motorcycle ride on North Jerusalem Avenue when he was struck and killed by Patrick Thompson, who was driving while intoxicated.
This marked Thompson's sixth DWI arrest, Judge Bogle said at Bliss's sentencing.
Just before the crash, Bliss sent a heartfelt message to his fiancée, Raquel Osteikoetxea, expressing his love and telling her that he had good news to share.
She said she never found out what that news was.
Thompson apologized and said he was "totally sorry" and said he never meant any harm to Bliss.
He acknowledged that he should not have been on the road.
