With scorching temperatures passing the 90-degree mark Thursday, some Long Island towns are helping residents beat the heat.
The Town of Hempstead is planning to keep town pools open an extra hour. Fourteen air-conditioned cooling centers will also be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Other towns will soon be announcing plans to beat the heat this weekend.
