The Town of Babylon says it is working on a plan to charge for parking at the Copiague train station.
Copiague is the only stop on the Babylon line with free parking for both residents and non-residents.
Officials say they have already submitted a plan to the MTA for approval.
The plan calls for a majority of the spaces to be permit-only.  Some spaces will be designated for metered parking and some will be free five-hour and handicapped parking.
The fees for permits would be in line with nearby stations: Anywhere from $30 to $65 for residents annually, and $150 to $700 for non-residents. Town officials say the reason for the proposed changes is that the lots are almost at capacity and that many people who are parking in the lot don't live in Copiague.
The MTA tells News 12 that it is reviewing the plan.
Town officials say they are hoping to implement the changes this summer if they get approval.
