Santa Claus got some help from Suffolk's finest to make the holidays a little brighter for some Long Islanders in need.
The Suffolk County Police Department's 5th Precinct partnered with Hall Enterprises Nursery in East Patchogue to donate trees to 10 families.
The families got to walk around the nursery to find their perfect tree. After the trees were cut, Santa Claus helped load them onto the families' cars.
The families also received Christmas tree decorations, lights and a tree stand.
Suffolk County Police Inspector William Silva came up with the idea for the event while dining with Hall Enterprises Nursey owner Charlie Hall. Within three days, they found a Santa, organized the event and had gift cards and decorations donated.
The families said they were grateful for the Christmas cheer, and Officer Silva said it felt great to help out.
"This is what the season is all about," he said.
The Suffolk County Police Department says it hopes to make the event an annual tradition.
