The Long Island Maritime Museum in West Sayville hosted their first Dutch Christmas Festival Saturday.
Executive director of the Maritime Museum Terry Blipman says the event revolved around the Dutch settlers and the traditions that they brought with them when they settled the Sayville and West Sayville area.
The evening included guided lantern tours of the property, then a walk to the Rudolph Oyster House to decorate oyster Christmas tree ornaments.
The event also featured a performance from the Long Island ReSound, a hand-bell group especially popular around the holidays.
"It is a lot of fun to watch," says conductor Jan Murray. "It's a very physical thing that they are doing and so you get to see a lot of action."
The hand-bell ensemble will be performing again at First Presbyterian Church in Babylon on Dec. 17.
