For the first time in 16 years, there is a new district attorney in Suffolk County.
Former Suffolk Police Commissioner Tim Sini was sworn in as the county's top prosecutor Tuesday morning at Suffolk County Community College in Brentwood.
Sini says he has a lot on his plate, including the war on gangs, the crippling opioid crisis and restoring trust in the district attorney's office. His predecessor, Thomas Spota, resigned amid federal corruption charges.
Sini told prosecutors and staff packing the college auditorium that they are owed an apology for the actions of the past administration, adding that he wants to restore the integrity of the DA's office.

Sini was sworn in by Sen. Chuck Schumer. Schumer says he believes Sini will fight for tough sentences for drug dealers.
“He’s gonna do a great job in wiping out this terrible scourge that has affected so many of our families,” said Schumer.
Sini says his office will also concentrate new efforts to prevent environmental and worker abuse crimes.
