Day 6 of Long Island's heat wave brought brief but powerful thunderstorms that resulted in a fire in Mount Sinai.
Officials believe a lightning strike this afternoon caused a house fire on Crabapple Court.
Firefighters needed to battle excessive heat in addition to the flames. At least a dozen firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion.
Saturday is expected to be sunny, hot and humid again with more afternoon storms.
