Crews responded to a three-alarm fire early Tuesday morning at West Side Elementary School in Syosset.

Authorities say an alarm went off at 4:40 a.m.

Several departments were seen battling the flames as heavy smoke emanated from the building.

District officials say the school is closed for the day.
