Thousands of Long Islanders flocked to Jones Beach on Memorial Day, but it was a slow start.

Before noon Monday the beach was far from full. With temperatures in the 70s and sunny, the early starters said it was not the kind of crowd they expected for Memorial Day. Nevertheless, there were a few daredevils willing to dive into the 50-degree water.

Officials say that 190,000 people packed Jones Beach on Sunday. An estimated 180,000 people hit the beach on Saturday.

Many at the beach over the weekend were there to enjoy the Bethpage Federal Credit Union Jones Beach Air Show.
