Thousands of people marched through Manhattan Saturday to demand racial equality in the wake of several police-involved deaths of unarmed black men.

The march comes after a pair of grand jury decisions to not charge the officers involved in the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner. Similar protests have been continually occurring in New York City and around the country.

About 48,000 people marched from Washington Square Park Saturday for the protest against all forms of what they call police brutality. They made their way downtown toward One Police Plaza later in the afternoon, and to the Brooklyn Bridge in the evening.

Organizers say it is now time to send a strong message that black lives matter.

Marchers carried signs and posters and chanted "Hands up, don't shoot!" and "I can't breathe," two resounding phrases protesters have picked up across the country since the grand jury decisions.

Marchers say they will continue to protest until their outrage is met with action.
