Some Long Island residents and out-of-towners got a jump-start on their Fourth of July celebrations Wednesday evening during a fireworks display at Massapequa Park.

Mayor Jeffrey Pravato said that about 5,000 people were in attendance to view the spectacle.

"It's a great event every year," said Pravato. "It's a kick-off to Fourth of July weekend."

The day's events included food vendors, live music and the fan-favorite fireworks display.
