As we step into the fall season. We reflect on this past summer on Long Island, which felt like a scorcher. Through the summer months (June-August), there were 12 days of 90 degrees or more.
Comparing this to last year, Islip had doubled the number of 90-degree days, as there were only six in 2024. Notably, there were two heat waves on the island. One in June that lasted four days, and another in July that lasted just three days, required meeting the criteria of a heat wave.
The summer of 2025 ranks as the 8th all-time warmest and the hottest or the most number of 90-degree days since 2021, making this one of the hottest summers in recent memory.
Like many of our neighbors in the tri-state, rainfall was scarce and even absent for many weekends and days during the summer. This year was one of the driest summers on record, ranking 15th out of 62, and the second driest since 2021. The total rainfall Islip saw this summer was 8.05 inches of rainfall. Normally, the summer months accumulate 11.39 inches of rainfall.
Summer 2025 on Long Island was not only a very hot one, but also significantly dry. Thankfully, there are many ways on the island to cool off, from ice cream, shaved ice, and of course, the surrounding beaches and pools. What was your favorite memory of summer 2025?
