A 30-year fight to bring an affordable housing complex to Greenlawn may finally be over.
Susan Lagville, of Housing Help, says the not-for-profit group has been pushing for a 155-unit complex on Pulaski and Elwood roads for three decades. She says the problems have ranged from environmental to legal, including a lawsuit in which the U.S. Supreme Court ruled the Town of Huntington had discriminatory housing practices. Residents have complained of traffic, drug and crime issues.
Lagville says there are still two major hurdles to jump before groundbreaking. The county must approve an on-site sewage treatment plant, and the town has to give the OK on environmental concerns. The developer hopes to begin construction in the next 18 months.
