With the drop of a puck, a new experience opened up for New York Islanders fans right outside of UBS Arena.
Northwell Presents The Park At UBS Arena offers experiences for the whole family before Islanders games.
Graziella Rastelli, from Bethpage, says she loves the Islanders and was excited to try all they have to offer before Friday night’s game.
"I went skating. I went in like those igloo things. Then I went over there to the synthetic ice for the puck drop," she said.
Also in attendance for the grand opening were some Islanders legends, including Hall of Famer and former captain Denis Potvin.
"You can't sit in the dressing room and say, 'I'm going to lose.' You've got to have that winning attitude, that feeling,” said Potvin. “I think this promotes that because it energizes the fans as well."
Fans say the energy felt at The Park is contagious.
"It gets the whole crowd going, like it gets everybody into the game pretty hype," said Ariana Ruggero, from Northport.
The Park isn’t just a space for fans. Community members can learn to skate, play in pond hockey tournaments and even learn to play hockey.
Fans say they’re excited to come back again.
"It's cool. I want to tell my friends about it too because it's my first time I've ever seen it,” said Mike Posillico, from East Meadow. "Why not keep it forever?"
The park will be open until Feb. 25. For more details about all the community events, visit here.
