Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said in a Senate hearing that schools should be the first to open and the last to close.
Gov. Phil Murphy said Monday masks in New Jersey's schools and day cares will continue to be required as a COVID-19 precaution despite a looming expiration. But in New York, new Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman issued an order last week saying local school districts can opt not to obey the New York state mandate on masks in schools.
