The Barclays officially got under way at Bethpage State Park today, and while it's great news for golf fans on Long Island, it's less so for some residents who are coping with traffic and noise.To accommodate the hundreds of thousands of spectators arriving by train, tournament organizers arranged for buses to shuttle fans to the course, buses that zip right through the Village of Farmingdale. Resident Carla Loeven says the view from her front porch lately looks more like a bus terminal, and she says her two young children haven't been able to take naps lately.Farmingdale Mayor Mark Ekstrand says he's sympathetic, but says his hands are tied because the routes were chosen by the state Department of Transportation. Despite all the traffic and congestion, merchants in the Village of Farmingdale say the temporary headaches are worth it.
