While the coast of Texas continues to get rocked by the heaviest rains in recorded U.S. history, more people are donating to local shelters in an effort to help victims.
News 12 reporter Andrew Ehinger is in Schulenburg, Texas, where a steady flow of supplies is being brought to a FEMA shelter.
Joanne Kinneary, of Port Washington, arrived at the shelter on Sunday with the American Red Cross. She says the location is getting busier as more victims from the coast get bused in.
"These are their possessions. These are their memories. It's heartbreaking," she says.
Being a Long Islander who experienced Superstorm Sandy, Kinneary knows that there is a tough road ahead for the flood victims.
"A flood comes and goes, but it takes months and years to recover," she says.
Ehinger reports that while the situation is dire, there has been an outpouring of support from the Schulenburg community – which has donated food, medicine, bedding supplies and much more.
