Suffolk police say a teenager attempting to have some fun in the snow accidentally snowboarded off a cliff in Setauket Thursday.
According to police, the 17-year-old boy, whose identity has not been released, fell off a 200-foot cliff and hit his head on a patch of ice. The teen was with three friends one mile into the woods off Old Town Road near the Brookhaven Town Highway Department yard. The victim's friends ran for help, but it took emergency workers 45 minutes to retrieve his unconscious body from a sand trap.
The boy was rushed to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition. Police say no laws were broken, and drugs and alcohol do not appear to have played a factor in the accident.
