Friday marked World Duchenne Awareness Day.
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a disease that affects one in 5,000 newborn children.
Thomas McCarthy, 19, was diagnosed with the disease when he was three years old.
The disease causes muscle loss, which has caused McCarthy to be in a wheelchair for much of his life.
He says he wants to bring awareness to the disease and raise money for it to hopefully one day find a cure.
"Be aware that this disease is out there and a lot of people suffer from it," McCarthy said. "And if you could keep donating, it would mean a lot."
The McCarthy family walks in the MDA Muscle Walk every year to raise money for the disease. This year's walk is in October.
