Police arrested a South Hempstead teen for driving under the influence of drugs in a Garden City crash that killed his childhood friend.
According to police, 17-year-old Samuel Demarco lost control of his Jaguar on Clinton Road Friday night and smashed into a tree. His friend, 18-year-old Michael Holmes, was thrown from the back seat onto the road. He died a short time later. Police say two teenaged girls were also injured in the crash.
Demarco?s attorney says his client was not drunk or on drugs and blood tests will prove it. He says the uneven pavement on Clinton Road is to blame for the accident. Demarco pleaded not guilty at his arraignment. Results of the blood tests are expected in two weeks.
