A 19-year-old Hempstead resident accused of hitting a man with his car on Friday is facing DWI charges, according to police.

Authorities say Luis Vargas struck the 76-year-old on Bellmore Avenue around 12 p.m.

The victim was hospitalized with a serious leg injury.

As of Saturday morning, he is in stable condition.

Police say Vargas will appear in court at a later date.
