A teen is behind bars in connection with the shooting death of an East Patchogue man whose son was found lying next to his body, Suffolk police said Sunday.
Officers arrested alleged triggerman 16-year-old Terraine Slide, of Medford, Saturday night. Police say five students from Bellport High School and Bellport Middle School were involved in the death of Carlton Shaw Sr. during a botched robbery at his Amsterdam Avenue home last Tuesday.
Authorities say one of the suspects, ages 14 to 16, turned himself in, leading investigators to the other boys. Slide faces charges of second-degree murder, burglary and criminal possession of a weapon. Another boy, whose name has not been released, is charged with burglary. Authorities say they expect to charge the remaining suspects at a later date.
Police arrived at the murder scene where they found the victim's 3-year-old son, Carlton Shaw Jr., lying with his father's body. Neighbors say relatives are so grief-stricken, they've been unable to sleep at the house since the murder.
