A new study claims that those living in the Bronx and the rest of the city are being exposed to dangerous amounts of diesel particles.The Clean Air Task Force claims that city residents spend 6 percent of their day commuting, but 50 percent of their daily diesel exposure comes at that time. The group says residents are four to 17 times more likely to take in diesel particles inside cars, trains and buses than out in the open air.The task force reports the particles are known to cause asthma attacks, heart attacks, strokes and are a likely cause of cancer. They also claim chronic exposure can cause respiratory disease. The study says on average, New Yorkers are faring better than commuters in cities such as Boston and Austin.
