(11/10/06) EAST ROCKAWAY - A tanker carrying home heating oil ran aground in the East Rockaway Inlet Friday morning.
The Coast Guard was hoping the high tide would take the 281-foot vessel, the Kristin Poling, back out to sea after it became stuck about 450 yards from shore. However, the ship remained stuck despite the high tide. The Coast Guard says the Kristin Poling is carrying more than 672,000 gallons of heating oil and so far there is no evidence of a spill.
In December 2004, the same ship got stuck in the same place of the East Rockaway Inlet.
