The first day of the Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup at Eisenhower Park was a hit with more than just fans.
Local businesses along Hempstead Turnpike told News 12 that they had more customers than usual on Monday – and are already preparing for the bigger matches later this week, including the highly anticipated clash between India and Pakistan this weekend.
Borrelli’s Restaurant features a big sign welcoming fans to the event – however, they were closed on Monday. Owner Frank Borrelli told News 12 that he saw a line of cars forming outside his restaurant on Hempstead Turnpike Monday morning, so he made a sign and offered parking in his lot for $30. He also allowed drivers, some of whom had completed 3- or 4-hour long trips to get there, to use the restaurant’s facilities before entering the match.
He’s expecting to see a boost in his sales starting with Wednesday’s match.
