A Syosset man has been sentenced for crashing into a 33-year-old man and his 3-year-old niece.

Varun Datt admitted to being drunk when he drove onto the sidewalk where the two were walking in May 2021.

The man suffered extensive injuries when he jumped in front of his niece.

The family tells News 12 that it's been a challenging road to recovery.

Datt faces three to nine years in prison for several charges, including driving drunk and vehicular assault.
