Heat is being blamed for two deaths on Long Island Friday.
Family members say they found 83-year-old Margaret Refenheiser, her 85-year-old husband Fred and her 101-year-old mother unconscious inside their Cliff Street home in Hempstead Thursday. Refenheiser was taken to Winthrop University Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Fred Rafenheiser is listed in extremely critical condition at Mercy Hospital. Margaret's mother is said to be alert and conscious. Family members say the home did not have any air conditioning, fans or open windows.
The second victim was 64-year-old Kevin Hallstrum, who lived with his sister in a mobile home in Bay Shore. Authorities say the trailer had an air conditioner, but it was not running.
