Bethpage residents woke up Saturday morning to find seven swastikas had been drawn on fences and a stop sign overnight.
Five swastikas were found on a fence on Steuben Avenue. Neighbors acted quickly to paint over the symbols. The other two were found scrawled on a stop sign and a second fence on Kearney Avenue, police say.
Police say the symbols were drawn between 7:30 p.m. Friday and 1 a.m. Saturday.
Bethpage resident Joseph Osicki says he is disappointed to see such destruction in the neighborhood.
Nassau County detectives say they are investigating the incident as a bias crime and are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
