News 12 Long Island has learned Evan Marshall was a student-teacher at West Hempstead High School after one of his former students saw him on television. Tammy McCabe says she was quickly on the phone with the school asking questions when her son, Daniel, recognized one of his former teachers. McCabe says school officials confirmed to her that Marshall student-taught socials studies at the high school.
The West Hempstead superintendent says background checks are mandatory for paid employees, but student-teachers are the responsibility of the university they come from. Officials at Hofstra, where Marshall received his Masters degree in education in 2004, say the law forbids them from giving any information about a student?s time there.
