Suffolk police say a suspect has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run that killed a man in a 7-Eleven parking lot in North Bay Shore last month.
Police say Dionel Ramirez, 69, of North Amityville, was collecting surplus food from the 7-Eleven on Pine Grove Boulevard near Pine Aire Drive when the incident happened. They say 48-year-old Edwin Gutierrez, of Manhattan, got into Ramirez's running car and attempted to steal it.
Ramirez reportedly tried to stop him from taking off when he was run over with his own car.
Gutierrez has been charged with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery and third-degree attempted grand larceny. Suffolk police say he was arrested on Dec. 5 with the help of the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Gutierrez will be arraigned in Central Islip on Dec. 7.
