A suspect is in custody after a police shootout on a Nassau County street Sunday evening.
The police-involved shooting took place in front of an apartment complex on Pine Street around 11 p.m.
According to Freeport officials, Freeport police were responding to a complaint or call to the area when they were fired at. They chased after the suspect and fired back.
Sources say the suspect under arrest is a known gang member.
No one was injured during the exchange of gunfire.
"This just goes to show that an officer’s life is in danger every time they go out there," says Freeport Mayor Robert Kennedy. "It's amazing to think that they are going out on a routine call, and all of a sudden they are being shot at.”
