Smartphones, tablets and other digital devices may be taking a toll on eyesight, according to a recent study.
The Vision Council, a trade group representing the nation's eye care products, recently surveyed 10,000 Americans. Their research shows that 90 percent of those surveyed said they use digital devices for two or more hours a day. A total of 60 percent admit to using them at least five hours a day.
According to the survey, 73 percent of adults in their 20s say they experience eyestrain while using their devices. That's compared to 53 percent of those in their 60s.
Doctors say some of the symptoms of eyestrain or eye fatigue are blurry vision, dry eyes and back or neck pain. According to the survey, 90 percent of people never bother to tell their eye care provider about their digital device usage.
To lessen the amount of strain, the Vision Council suggests people get regular eye exams, keep computer screens at least an arm's length away and reduce screen time.
