Police were called to James A. Dever Elementary School in Valley Stream on Thursday after a fifth grade student brought a pistol to school, according to the superintendent.
The gun was confiscated following the discovery and a police investigation determined it was unusable.
The superintendent says the student got the gun from a friend and brought it into school to show classmates.
The district says the student never posed a threat to the school.
