Several state measures are set to expire Tuesday at midnight if the Senate does not resolve its stalemate and get to work, leaving Long Island in the lurch.
Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi says the system is broken. He says the legislative paralysis in Albany is costing the county around $100 a day, which means cuts and layoffs may be necessary.
Suozzi is pleading with state senators to pass a $2 cigarette tax to raise revenue and stave off cuts to youth program. The county executive says an early retirement program for county workers is also at risk.
