Long Island commuters are days away from the major track work at Penn Station.
Track repairs on the aging Penn Station infrastructure will take two months. Commuters have been told to expect one out of every five LIRR trains bound for Penn Station to be canceled.
During the work, the LIRR is offering commuters a 25 percent discount if they decide not to go to Penn Station and instead go to Brooklyn, Hunterspoint Avenue or Long Island City.
Other commuters may consider staying away from the railroad and using car pools, buses and ferries. Some may want to tele-commute.
Whichever path a commuter takes, MTA board member Mitch Pally’s advice is to remain patient.
“Patience is going to be a virtue,” says Pally.
The “summer of hell” work begins July 10.
