A Suffolk County woman is facing animal abuse charges while veterinarians try to nurse her dog back to health.
Doctors have been caring for "Fat Boy," a 4-year-old Maltese mix, at Grady Animal Hospital in Sayville.
According to the Suffolk SPCA, the dog's owner, Lateesha Boston, of Coram, brought him to the hospital in so much pain. They say he couldn't move because of skin irritations, which caused doubt over whether he'd survive.
Officials say the Maltese mix was soaked in urine with matted hair when he came to Grady in early March.
Paul Llobell, of the SPCA, adds that Fat Boy had a gangrenous-type cut around his neck.
Boston is charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty. She's scheduled to appear in Central Islip court June 7.
